Deployment Decisions

All categories are determined by threat assessment—primarily recommended by the Intelligence Bureau, approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

SPG Security

Highest level; reserved for the serving Prime Minister.

Managed by the Special Protection Group; personnel strength can go up to several thousand, rotated for coverage.

Provides classified, elite protection with multi-layered security arrangements.

Z+ Security

Second-highest; typically 55 armed personnel, including NSG commandos, CRPF, and state police.

Protection includes bulletproof vehicles, advanced surveillance gadgets, and 24x7 armed coverage.

Given to senior Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and other high-threat individuals.

Z Security

Third-highest; involves about 22 armed personnel (CRPF/ITBP, police, drivers, commandos).

Includes round-the-clock armed guards, close-proximity protection, and escort vehicles.

Provided to Chief Ministers, cabinet ministers, and individuals facing high threat perception.

Y+ Security

Coverage with about 11 personnel, combining 2–4 commandos and police officers.

Offers significant protective arrangements, including personal security officers and transportation safety.

For politicians and public figures with moderate threat levels.

Y Security

Usually 8 security personnel, with a mix of armed and unarmed guards.

Focuses on basic personal security for judges, businesspersons, and other dignitaries.

X Security

Entry level; consists of 2 police officers, no commandos.

Designed for individuals with minor or minimal threat perceptions.
